| Founder
visits Kenya |
|
17th March 2011 |
| |
|
Our Founder, Charles, has just returned from a three
week visit to Kenya to |
| catch up
with the team out there, to check on progress in the
schools and, |
| most
importantly, to offically launch the rebuilding of
Kisimenyi Primary |
| School -
our most ambitious project yet. |
| |
| Visiting
Kenya for the first time since |
|
| October
last year, Charles took the |
|
opportunity to meet with the management |
|
committees, teaching staff, parents and |
| pupils
from all the schools that African |
| Promise
supports. |
|
| The focus
of discussions was the current |
|
development priorities at each school and |
| on
establishing 2-3 year development |
|
| plans. |
| |
| Our
continued success on the fundraising front means we are
becoming |
|
increasingly capable of responding and reacting to the
changing needs of the |
| schools -
operating less on a hand-to-mouth basis and only able to
implement |
| projects
for which we receive ring-fenced funding. |
| |
| Beginning
in the next couple of weeks we will step up our level of
activity |
| across the
schools and also begin to support the schools in new
ways, for |
| example
through the provision of modern classroom furniture and
the supply |
| of
textbooks and other learning materials and resources. |
| |
| Elsewhere,
a magnificent ground-breaking ceremony was held at
Kisimenyi |
| to
officially launch our project there. The event was well
attended by parents, |
| members of
the wider communty, as well as government officials and
local |
|
dignatories, and was a memorable occassion for all
involved. |
