| Kisimenyi
project launched |
|
20th March 2011 |
| |
|
On Thursday 10th March the Kisimenyi community
(including pupils, parents, |
| staff and
the school management committee) as well as local
government |
| officials
came together to mark the official launch of our project
to rebuild |
| Kisimenyi
Primary School. |
| |
|
During a memorable, if exhausting day, for all involved the Kenyan national |
| anthem was
beautifully sung, a range of other songs, poems and
dances |
| were
performed by pupils and the community, speeches were
made and, |
| finally,
ground was broken on the site for the new school by a
select group of |
|
key individuals behind the project. |
|
|
| Work will
now begin on the first phase of the project, to include
the building of |
| eight
primary classrooms, a nursery school, a library and an
office/staffroom |
| block.
Though we face a number of early challenges, including a
severe lack |
| of water,
we anticipate work will get underway at the start of
April and |
| continue
on this phase for the remainder of the year - though we
still need to |
| raise
£29,500 to complete the work. |
| |
| We are
hugely grateful for the support of the Saga Charitable
Trust, Aspect |
| Capital
Ltd and the Marr-Munning Trust who, between them, have
donated |
| £42,500 -
a sum which has allowed us to begin the project. |
| |
| At the
start of 2012 we will furnish the buildings and install
modern toilets - a |
| phase for
which we will need to raise in the region of £31,000 -
and further |
| phases
will follow throughout 2012 which will include the
construction of four |
| further
primary classrooms and an eco-kitchen as well as the
provision of |
| learning
materials and a water supply. |
| |
| We will
continue to keep this website, as well as our Facebook
and Flickr sites, |
| updated
with news, photos and videos from Kisimenyi but, in the
meantime, |
| please sit
back and enjoy the following photos and videos from the
launch |
| ceremony. |
