Plans for 2012
9th January 2012
During the year we aim to undertake, at the very least, the following projects:

Completion of Kisimenyi Phase I
What: completion of construction of classrooms, library, nursery school and
office, installation of sanitation facilities and rainwater harvesting, and supply
of furniture for classrooms and other facilities

Read about our work at Kisimenyi and see what stage we're at  >>>

A new tuition block at Makwasinyi
What: construction of a three classroom tuition block
Why: The enrolment at Makwasinyi is ever growing and classrooms that
were already too small are becoming ever more cramped. The school not
only needs bigger classrooms but more of them too and this project is the
first stage in helping to ease congestion.

When: starting in the first quarter of 2012
Cost: around £15,000 (£5,000 per classroom)

Bungule classroom renovations (Phase II)
What: Following our work in December 2011 to improve the exterior of the
4-room tuition block at Bungule by replacing the roofing sheets and building
a veranda on the front elevation, in 2012 we will complete the renovations by
focusing on the interior: installing new windows, erecting ceilings, building
storage cupboards, and replastering and painting

When: April 2012 (during the Easter break in order to minimise disruption)
Cost: around £5,000
How can you help? This project is already funded

Continuation of classroom furniture programme
What: the supply of modern steel-framed tables and chairs for every pupil
Why: existing timber work benches are not only in short supply but also of a
poor design, offering little space for working and storage. Furthermore, many
are badly damaged and worn.

When: throughout the year
How can you help? a twin-desk and chairs for lower primary pupils costs
£45 whilst an individual flip-top desk and chair for upper primary pupils costs
£30

Girls sanitation facilities at Bungule
What: a block of 4 modern sanitation units for primary girls
Why: the existing toilets are sinking under their own weight and there is the
very real danger of them collapsing into the pit below when the soil is less
stable during rainy periods.
When: as soon as possible
