In January 2017, in the face of extreme water shortages in our partner schools due to drought, we launched an appeal for funds so that we could buy supplies of clean water.

The appeal raised a total of more than £7,000 in a couple of months. So far this has been used to pay for the purchase and transportation by bowser of 200,000 litres of clean water and also to provide an additional 40,000 litres of rainwater storage capacity to help improve resiliance against future droughts.

We have a balance of around £2,000 from the appeal which we have been holding in reserve in case additional supplies are needed. Fortunately, the drought has eased significantly and no water has been required since September and we have decided to invest the remaining funds in additional rainwater harvesting capacity.
