  • Today we delivered 5000 litres of water to Ngambenyi Primary as rainwater supplies have already been exhausted and we are now in the dry season. #waterislife
  • It's a bit empty now but very soon this hall will provide a space in which the 600 pupils at Kisimenyi Primary can enjoy their lunch. Not all at once obviously, that would be a bit of squeeze, but in two or three 'sittings'. First though we need to find some tables and benches!
  • The last time we saw our 2018 @londonmarathon runner, @davidjharkin, was as he neared the end of the 26.2 mile run. Today we were at the offices of his educational social enterprise, @7billionideas, to collect a 'cheque' for the funds he raised and to discuss ideas for a longer term partnership between the business and AP. It's all very exciting indeed and incredible to think that this has all come about off the back of a single Tweet!!
  • A new idea to help our challenge event fundraisers raise as much money as they can, these fundraising business cards are a handy way to spread the word. How far could you #run or #cycle to help make the #walktoschool a worthwhile one for children in our partner schools?
  • After improving the working and learning environment in so many schools, we decided that our own office was due an upgrade. Hopefully the new ceiling (which still needs painting) will create a cooler and more comfortable environment for our project team.
  • How's that for a backdrop?! Mt Kasigau looms high over most of our partner schools, including here at Ngambenyi Primary. 📷: @baskets4bread
  • Looking back over old photos of Kisimenyi Primary to remind us how far the school has come even in the five years since we completed construction of the initial parts of the new school (and it has come on even further since the last photo was taken nearly 12 months ago!) ps - in case you are wondering, the flag post was relocated! • After the severe drought of 2016 and 2017, Kenya is now being pounded by heavy rains. Figures from the @tsavotrust conservation charity show that the Tsavo region (of which our project area is a part) received as much rain in March as the whole of 2017. Dams and water pans (like this one) are full and overflowing, and rainwater storage tanks in our partner schools are being regularly topped up. It makes such a difference from this time last year when we were supplying hundreds of thousands of litres of water by bowser, at vast expense. #rains #rainyseason #waterislife
  • Thanks to this paving, pupils at Ngambenyi can now collect rainwater from the newest tank at the school without getting muddy feet! #attentiontodetail
  • HE'S A FINISHER! Massive congratulations to @davidjharkin for completing today's @londonmarathon despite the sweltering conditions. Thank you, David, for taking our cause to heart, to everybody that has contributed to David's fundraising total of £2.9k (and counting!), and to @tomcoldman for connecting us via Twitter. #Repost @davidjharkin with @repostapp
The hardest thing I’ve ever done! Today the heat was unbelievable. 27c on parts of the course and officially the hottest London marathon. I had to slow my pace down and at times I thought I’ll never finish. Thank you to the 800,000 supporters, my amazing friends and family who worked hard to see me so many times and of course Jenny Harkin whose helped me with my training every step. I ran to feed 200 children in Kenyan primary schools for an entire year - 37,000 meals. If you can sponsor me at the following link I’ll be forever grateful. Thank you to all those who have!
