After a hiatus of one-year owing to the Covid pandemic our Carol Service returned with a bang in 2021.

Eventhough we were lower on numbers than normal, the London International Gospel Choir, soprano Katie Marshall and readers Charles Dance, Simon Callow and Giles Terera gave everyone present an evening to remember!

The gospel choir, returning for the first time since 2018, had the congregation on their feet and dancing with uplifting and energetic performances of numbers including ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ and ‘Love Theory’, whilst Katie Marshall enchanted everyone with her mesmerising performances, earning the first standing ovation in the event’s history for her spine-tingling rendition of ‘O Holy Night’.

In between, arguably our most high-profile reader line-up to date captured the imagination with readings of ‘African Christmas’ (Giles Terera), ‘King John’s Christmas’ (Charles Dance) and Auden’s ‘For the Time Being: A Christmas Oratorio’ (Simon Callow).

The universal feedback was that this Carol Service was the best one yet and, all told, we are delighted to have raised around £3,750 for the charity after costs.
