Frequently asked questions

We will direct your donation to wherever the funds are needed most. Whatever size your gift we can assure you that it will be spent effectively and prudently. Currently, we spend about 90p in every £1 on charitable activities including direct programme/project expenditure and support costs. The remaining 10p is spent on fundraising activities to help us raise more funds and on administration to ensure that the charity is effectively governed. In 2021/22 we raised £15 for every £1 spent on fundraising activities.

None of our partners deduct any platform fees from donations however GlobalGiving and JustGiving give the option for donors to add a voluntary contribution to their donation towards the cost of maintaining and running their platforms.

Each platform will deduct a small payment processing fee from your donation as follows:

CAF Donate – 2-3% depending on the payment method you use plus a one-off flat fee of £1 for each new direct debit arrangement;

GlobalGiving – 3% on all donations;

JustGiving – 1.9% +20p (2.9% for foreign currency donations) plus 5% from any Gift Aid.

Our Ethical Donations & Fundraising Policy outlines how we will endeavour to behave in a lawful and ethical manner in respect of our fundraising activities and sets out the circumstances in which we may decide to refuse or return a donation.

As members of the Fundraising Regulator, we are committed to upholding their Code of Fundraising Practice and Fundraising Promise which outline the standards expected of fundraising organisations in the UK. We also comply with Charity Commission guidance and UK law in respect of our fundraising activities.

If you have any concerns or complaints about our fundraising activities please refer to our Complaints Policy.

At present, our bank (CAF Bank) is unable to join the “confirmation of payee” initiative, launched in March 2020, which means our account details cannot be authenticated by a participating bank.

It is still safe and secure to transfer funds to us if you are using account details that we have provided you but please contact us if you have any concerns or are in any doubt.
