#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that takes place annually on the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday to celebrate and encourage charitable giving as an alternative to all that shopping.
This year #GivingTuesday falls on the 29th November and with it now less than 4 weeks away we wanted to let you know what we will be doing to mark the day and what opportunities there will be for you to give something back by supporting our cause.
First-and-foremost we are participating in two fundraising campaigns offering donation matching opportunities to our supporters both in the UK and the US.
In the UK, the BigGive Christmas Challenge launches at midday on #GivingTuesday and will run for 72 hours until midday on the 2nd December. Unlike in previous years, we have our own private matching fund which means we can guarantee £-for-£ matching on donations either until our matching pot of £3,000 is exhausted or until the 72 hours have elapsed, whichever is soonest. There will be no scramble to be online at 10am on any day of the challenge or frustrations when matching funds have been quickly exhausted as we know there has been for some of you in the previous years that we have been involved. If you visit our donation page on the BigGive sometime during those 3 days and there are matching funds still available, your donation will be doubled. Simple as that.
Our US-based supporters will not miss out on the donation doubling excitement as we are also participating in the GlobalGiving.org year-end matching campaign. This will offer 50% matching on the first $1million of donations to all eligible charities on the GlobalGiving platform during #GivingTuesday. Any donation made to us via GlobalGiving.org will be tax deductible but please note that this matching scheme is not available on GlobalGiving UK.
But #GivingTuesday is not just about giving money, it is about donating your time and your voice. We will be producing some promotional materials for social media which you can use to show your support for African Promise and #GivingTuesday, and to encourage others to do the same.
