Charles Coldman (Founding
Director) |
|
Charles is the 25-year-old founder of the charity. He
first experienced all that |
|
Africa has to offer when he visited a school in Tanzania
with a group from his |
|
own secondary school. He returned to Africa - this time
to Kenya - with the |
|
volunteer organisation Africa & Asia Venture (AV) just
over a year later. |
|
Africa got under his skin. In
late 2006, after graduating with a business
|
|
degree from Exeter university, Charles spent six months
in Kenya managing |
|
a small project at Jora Primary School. Two years on, in
2008, he set-up |
|
African Promise and we are now working with Jora and a
handful of other |
|
schools. Charles was based in Kenya up until May 2010
but now divides his |
|
time and attentions between overseeing our activities in
Kenya and |
|
fundraising and development of the charity in the UK. |
|

Denis Mwanyiro (Project
Manager) |
|
Charles became friends with Denis during his time as a
volunteer in Kenya in |
|
2003. Denis was the obvious candidate when Charles was
looking for |
|
someone he knew from within the local area to join
African Promise. Denis |
|
completed a successful trial and was then employed
initially to support |
|
Charles with the day-to-day operations of the charity in
Kenya. Since Charles' |
|
return to the UK in May 2010, Denis has had direct
responsibility for managing |
|
our activities. Denis is 26-years-old and lives in the
village of Jora, where his |
|
family run the local 'supermarket'. Full-time employment
with African Promise |
|
has allowed him to build his own house in the village. |
|

Harman Mjomba (Assistant) |
|
Harman was employed in 2009 as the level of our
activities expanded and |
|
further project oversight support was required. |
|
